Dr. Jan Cirullies, born in Dortmund in 1984, is head of the department of Digitization and Logistics at Fraunhofer ISST since March 2017. At TU Dortmund University, he received degrees in logistics (Dipl.-Logist.) in 2009 and in business sciences (Dipl.-Kfm.) in 2012. He obtained his doctorate degree (Dr.-Ing.) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU Dortmund University in 2016.
As a scholarship holder and then as an employee of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Cirullies’ career began at the department of Supply Chain Engineering at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML in Dortmund. His scientific focus was on the methodology for supply chain design and planning and the development of logistic decision support systems based on discrete-event simulation. In 2013, Cirullies changed to the department of Information Logistics at Fraunhofer IML where he took responsibility for the topics of simulation and decision support systems. New scientific topics comprised the digitization of logistics and production, particularly by the integration of IoT devices into data supply chains as well as the development of secure data supply chains based on the Industrial Data Space. At Fraunhofer ISST, Cirullies will further enhance and refine these topics in the context of digital business engineering.
Besides that, Cirullies is heading the task force “Use Cases” in the working group “European Data Space” of the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO). He gave and gives seminars at TU Dortmund University in “Simulation in Logistics” as well as lectures at the universities of applied science Niederrhein and Südwestfalen in “Supply Chain Management” and “Production Planning and Scheduling” respectively.
